Opportunities for Inclusion (formerly GWArc) was founded on December 10, 1956.
We are thrilled to be celebrating 64 years in the amazing Waltham community!

Opportunities for Inclusion was founded by Lawrence Lane (above), who had a son with disabilities.
Members of the Lane family still live in the Waltham area.

In 1956, Mr. Lane and a group of concerned parents organized Greater Waltham Arc (GWArc), an all-volunteer, grass roots organization devoted to advocating for community services as an alternative to institutional care for their children with developmental disabilities.

These parents supported each other in an era which promoted and sanctioned institutionalization. They also organized and delivered community based education, work training, and clinical services for their children.

Today, we have adapted to the changing needs of our population. While striving to promote independence and inclusion, we shape our services to fit the needs of those we serve.

In 2018, our agency was renamed to Opportunities for Inclusion to better reflect our mission and what we do. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are uniquely sensitive to the level of personal support required for individuals to thrive. We have proven experience with the inclusion of all people into the community.
