Residential Services

The primary goal of Residential Services is to help individuals live as independently and safely as possible within a community setting. These services provide housing and personalized support to individuals who need assistance due to intellectual and developmental disabilities. Key Objectives include:

Promote Independence: Staff teach daily living skills like cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.

Ensure Safety and Well-being: Programs offer 24/7 or supervision, medication management, and crisis support.

Foster Community Integration: Services help residents participate in local activities, build social networks, and access public resources.

Enhance Quality of Life: Accommodations are tailored to provide a comfortable, dignified, and home-like environment.

Develop Personal Goals: Staff members work with residents to set and achieve milestones regarding employment, education, or hobbies.

Opportunities for Inclusion (OFI) currently operates one group residence. OFI purchased a historic property at 46 Chestnut Street from the Nix family and renovated it to create a community residence for up to five individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Renovations were partially funded by the City of Waltham Community Preservation Committee (CPC). The group home marks a new chapter in the mission of independent living conceived by OFI's founders almost 70 years ago. Located next to our main building at 56 Chestnut Street, it was renamed the Gabriel M. Vonleh House in 2025, in memory of our former CEO.

Planning and design to convert our 15 Fiske Avenue residence into our second OFI Community Residence is in process. Renovation activities, including the building of an addition, will begin in 2026. OFI received funding from the Waltham Community Preservation Committee for purchase and renovation of this property.
